Note About Roman Catholic Churches: The average member of a Roman Catholic congregation in Omaha is very thoughtful, welcoming, and gay-inclusive. The Omaha Roman Catholic Archdiocese (whose leader is dictated by a foreign government, the Vatican, rather than democratically-elected like other religions) is very anti-gay. Hence the Roman Catholic belief that God speaks through the people as much as through the Vatican, since the Vatican tries to appease the most extremist-rightwingers when setting policy rather than listen to the average Roman Catholic. This contradiction between leadership and average Roman Catholic churchgoers is true of many issues. If there were an election, the Archbishop of Omaha would never win his post because his views (those of a foreign government) are so opposite the average Roman Catholic in Omaha.

MEDICAL

Hospitals and Clinics:
Omaha's major hospitals/medical centers - Methodist Health System, Alegent Health, Creighton University Medical Center, and University of Nebraska Medical Center - have nondiscrimination policies covering sexual orientation.

Home Care:
City residents are served by the Visiting Nurse Association.

Free HIV Testing:
Nebraska AIDS Project (NAP) offers free HIV counseling and testing regardless of sexual orientation.

CRIME

Laws:
Nebraska State Hate Crimes Law includes sexual orientation as a protected category regarding bias-motivated violence and intimidation. The National Hate Crimes Law includes sexual orientation as well.
